CAMP COUNSELOR OPPORTUNITIES

CLASS INSTRUCTORS

There have been slight changes to Arts & Crafts this year, so please read thoroughly.

Here are the steps for applying to be an Arts & Crafts instructor for ENC 2024.
OPTION 1: a project of your own
1) Submit the class(es) you would like to teach in this application.
2) We will do an initial evaluation of whether the proposed class(es) are a good fit/feasible.
3) If the classes are viable, you’ll be asked to provide photos of project samples and fill out a spreadsheet with the following information:
      Material sourcing
Class time needed
4) A final decision will be made on the feasibility of the class(es).
5) ENC will provide the supplies.
OPTION 2: A project of ours
Craft department leads are creating a list of craft projects that we’d like to have at camp and/or have the materials already.
OPTION 3: ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM!
Want to teach *A* craft, but don’t want to be staff the rest of the time? Arts & crafts instructors are able to teach as little or many classes as they choose, with no additional time commitment! Submit your class(es) through the application, how many times you’d like to teach the class (usually 1-3 times), Adjunct instructors will need to register as campers, and will be given the option* to come a day early (staff day), and a staff t-shirt as our thanks.
*Adding Staff Day includes: dinner and lodging, then breakfast and lunch the next day. For 2023, Ramblewood charged $78/person. Exact fee TBA ASAP, but it shouldn’t be much more than that.
Arts and Crafts Instructors will NOT be responsible for supplying their own class materials for ENC 2024. You will be in charge of providing your own pictures and class descriptions.
In order to encourage potential campers with all the cool projects and classes that will be offered, a basic list of the arts & crafts classes will be on the site during camper registration. A full class schedule with signups will go live at a later date.

Do you have a plethora of practice swords and experience in teaching swords classes? This position is a bit different from our other instructors, in that we pay the venue to cover your food and lodging expenses.

Mermaid instructors teach classes during the two afternoon periods, and can either apply to teach/help in another department for an additional period, apply as adjunct, or will be asked to help where it’s needed. We provide the monofins. You’ll assist campers with Mermaid tails and learning to navigate in the water. Must be comfortable in the water and have previous mermaid swimming experience.

Must have experience with instruction and creating a safe environment for this activity.

We’re open to new ideas for classes! There’s a spot in the application to submit a class.

GAME ROOM

You will be asked to help for a maximum of three activity periods per day OR a mix of activity periods and 2-3 hour shifts in the evening.

Game room duties can include:

-Assisting with tournaments.
-Managing the Game Library and assisting with the check in/out process
-Helping campers choose a game and going over the game rules
-Teaching intro to RPGs and character creation

Many campers like to host their own RPGs or salon LARPs in the evenings. If you’d like for your game to be listed on our schedule, please email [email protected]

MEDICAL

Registered Nurses must be certified in Maryland.
EMTs must possess valid EMT certification.

On-duty shifts will trade off. On-duty nurses/EMTs may be asked to remain central to the pool area at certain times, but can otherwise participate in activities where they are able to leave quickly, and are able to participate in any activities when not on-duty.

Tl;dr- you will have a lot of free time.

LARP AND BOFFER GAMES

Must have experience with instruction and creating a safe environment for this activity. Applicants should be applying for an additional area.

Must have experience with instruction and creating a safe environment for this activity. Preparation and execution of games. Set-up and tear down of equipment.

HOW IT WORKS

Anyone interested in joining the ENC team must be aware of the following policies.

We provide free registration to the ENC program for everyone on our team. As with most events, you’ll need to cover your food and lodging costs charged by the venue. Your compensation is $409-$534 by way of a  ~50%+ discount on the badge.  The per/head cost for 2025 is $415 (plus any additional fees from Tabletop.Events/Square) .  We highly encourage our team to stay on-site, but if you live super locally, or plan to stay in a nearby hotel, let us know.

STANDARD CAMP COUNSELOR: Unless otherwise specified, Camp Counselors will be assigned three activity periods (or their equivalent) per day for the three middle days of camp, as well as helping set up/tear down, and generally help out around camp outside of the scheduled activity blocks. These Camp Counselors arrive a day early to camp.

NON-STANDARD CAMP COUNSELOR: These positions include Camp Counselors who: work a significant amount with us throughout the year, bring all their own equipment and execute their own activity, and/or have some other situation that needs to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. We’re not assholes, so we’ll work out something fair.

FIRST YEAR CAMP COUNSELOR: First-year Camp Counselors will be asked to purchase a First-Year Staff Badge at camper price. After successful completion of your Camp Counselor commitments, you will be reimbursed the difference between your food/lodging costs and your paid registration fee after the conclusion of camp. This system discourages people from signing up to be a Camp Counselor, collecting their badge, then neglecting to fulfill their commitments.

RETURNING CAMP COUNSELOR: Returning Camp Counselors will have access to the food/lodging at-cost badge of $415.

ADJUNCT CRAFT COUNSELOR: Adjunct Craft Counselors have the ability to register as a camper, and only teach for a few periods. See Craft section for more details.

THINGS TO KNOW
Unless otherwise specified, you are expected to arrive at the venue between 2pm-4pm on Friday, August 15th (the day before camp) and stay until teardown/cleanup is complete. (Around noon on the last day.)

All Camp Counselors must wear their Epic Nerd Camp badge while in the camp or working/participating in activities. This will set a good example for campers, who are also required to wear their badge at all times.

All Camp Counselors should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Please refrain from wearing torn or dirty clothing. You’ll be provided with one ENC Camp Counselor t-shirt, which should be worn while on duty. Additional Camp Counselor t-shirts will be available at cost (TBA). Comfortable walking shoes are best, as most Camp Counselors will be standing or walking a great deal during the day.

Please do not use your cell phone excessively while on duty.

We ask all Camp Counselors to act in the best interest of Epic Nerd Camp by respecting campers, fellow Camp Counselors, and staff, as well as promoting a safe and healthy environment.

You are welcome to help outside of assigned hours, but your food/lodging costs will remain the same, as that money goes straight to Ramblewood.

Camp Counselors must refrain from any deliberate acts that may create a dangerous or unhealthy situation during Epic Nerd Camp. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of illegal drugs, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages; and assaulting, threatening, or disregarding the safety (or perceived safety) of an individual.

We have a zero-tolerance policy against harassment of any kind. Violation of this policy will result in badge revocation and removal from our programs without reimbursement.
