ENCAROS

The story so far…

Encaros is a land of two factions warring for years untold. Their clashes in the past can only be described as devastating; the magic and tactics of both sides destroyed many protections the land once carried and awakened old mysteries better left locked away. But that was then…

It’s been 100 years since peace was found between the Volusians and the Ta’Kar. The result is a land that has prospered.  Stone that once loomed tall above the city separating the land, have been taken down and repurposed to make roads linking communities. Soil that was once cracked and barren, now grows bountiful crops to feed the ever expanding communities.

But the darkness is never really gone….

Information on the next chapter of Encaros coming soon!!

Join us for an all new ENC original parlor LARP! We’re mashing up a Call of Cthulhu LARP with a live game of Clue. Try to keep your wits about you as an Old God attempts to mind control your group, one by one. Who has already been corrupted?

SPACE QUEST

Our galaxy is in danger! An evil empire is on the rise, as their overlord searches for the collection of artifacts that would give him unlimited power and immortality. Journey with your intrepid crew in a race to find the artifacts first!

BATTLE GAMES

Also known as “combat games” or “boffer games”, these are non-roleplaying games based around using foam padded implements representing swords, shields,  and other gear that is designed to safely come into realistic physical contact with the players. An objective, such as capture the flag, will be played out with all the fun that comes from smacking someone with a foam sword!

Some examples of the games we’ll be playing (that we found on this AMAZING LIST are:

Bridge Battles are team games with any amount of players. You must destroy the opposing team just like a normal team battle, but the trick is that your are on a bridge and can fall into the waters below.  You are safe to stand on the land or the bridge, but if any part of your body touches the water are, you are instantly killed (i.e. fell off the bridge). Variant: The team who makes it to the other side of the bridge first wins.

Fetch works best with 5 to 10 people. One player is the thrower the rest are the fetchers. All fetchers start in a line 5 feet apart from each other. The thrower stands five feet behind them. The thrower then tosses a rock over their heads as far as he or she can. When the rock hits the ground the thrower shouts ‘GO’ and the fetchers can begin to move (false starters die instantly). Their job is to fetch the rock and bring it back to the thrower. (The rock must be placed in the throwers hand, not tossed to him or her.) The fetchers are fully allowed to kill and/or maim each other.

Necromancer is a very interesting game involving treason and should be played with twenty or more players. Two teams are made, a team of peasants and a team of zombies. One out of every five peasants is a zombie. Before combat begins all the peasants draw a piece of paper from a hat. One piece of paper has the word “necromancer” on it. Whoever gets the necromancer is secretly on the team of the zombies. One zombie looks at each peasants paper to find out who the necromancer is and tells the other zombies (the peasants should never know which one is the necromancer). Battle then begins. When anyone dies, peasant or zombie, they fall to the ground. The necromancer can “raise” them by touching their chest or back. Anyone raised is now a zombie and fights for the zombie team. If the peasants figure out who the necromancer is and kills him or her all the other zombies die and the peasant team wins. If the necromancer and his zombies succeed in converting all the peasants they win.

The pond is nestled down in a grove, with a bridge that will take you into the magical land of Encaros. During the day, you can borrow a canoe. At night, come sit on one of the many benches surrounding the campfire, which also offer a view of our fire dancing/ flow arts area. Flow artists are encouraged to bring their equipment!

The pond spirit, Snappy McSnapface (see map), prohibits us from swimming in the pond, so our new goal is to see if we can fill up every inch of the pool with floaties. I believe we can!

PURCHASE BADGES!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

June 28th-July 2nd, 2019

Ramblewood
2564 Silver Road
Darlington, MD 21034

Camper Registration: $699 (Includes lodging, food, and activities.)

If you are excited about what Epic Nerd Camp has to offer, you’re nerdy enough. You don’t need to have previous experience in doing any of the things you’re excited about. Trying new things is one of the best parts of camp! However, if you are looking at this as a cheap alternative to a specialty camp (i.e. circus), and disdain the nerdy aspects, ENC is not for you. If you’re looking for some nerds to troll/bully, ENC is not for you. We’ll boot you out and keep your money. 🙂

Absolutely!! Anyone with preferences or concerns in regards to lodging may contact us at [email protected] We want everyone to be comfortable, and have a Safer Spaces Team here to address and handle any concerns.

Refund requests made more than 90 days before the start of camp are eligible to receive a refund of their paid registration fee, minus a $75 cancellation fee.

Refund requests made between 61 – 90 days prior to the start of camp are eligible to receive a 50% refund of the paid registration fee.

Refund requests made within 60 days of camp will not be eligible for a refund.

Registration is open now!

No, there is no payment plan. If you want to do payments in installments, a credit card is your best bet.

Yes! We have several options when it comes to bunking, including co-ed cabins.  All of the beds have twin sized Tempurpedic mattresses. Some people push them together to sleep closer to their companion.

You must be 21+ years of age by your arrival at camp. There is no upper age limit.

Yes, you will be provided with three meals each day. You are, of course, welcome to bring your own. We will have vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other allergy options.

If you have severe food allergies (Celiac/etc), you are also welcome to bring prepared meals and keep them in the kitchen fridge. Please contact us well in advance and notify us if you plan to do so, we will make every effort to make this as convenient and safe as possible.

Other than your awesome self, you will need to bring your own twin size linens (whatever you require for your bed/pillow/blankets/towel). THIS POST in our Facebook Group will give you a pretty good idea of what to bring.

If you have any personal games you want to bring, do it! And yes, you can bring your costumes. WE ENCOURAGE IT!

The grounds are largely not wheelchair accessible, cabins and building structures are not fitted with wheelchair ramps, as well as a large number of hills and obstacles that would prevent a wheelchair-bound camper from traveling around to activity spaces unassisted. If you have low mobility, you should be fine as long as you can comfortably walk up to 10,000 steps a day unassisted, including incline/declines, steps, shiny distractions, etc.

Although the range is from 21-65, the bulk of our campers are in their mid-2os to mid-40s. Several campers have come or returned with their parents.  Age doesn’t seem to matter though, as our shared passion of fandoms, games, and creative media is a huge equalizer.

All three years have had slightly more campers who use female pronouns, which is unusual for a “nerd” event… but we excel in “unusual” ;P

Yes, definitely yes. There is no way to work around this. Not only will ENC have photographers, but all of the campers will be taking pictures, as well as members of the media, including, but not limited to, newspapers and tv networks. If you have any issues with showing up in a photograph or video, this may not be the best fit for you. There’s a photo/video release in the registration waiver.

The main roads/pathways are paved. There are some paths that have large gravel. It’s like a mix of regular sized Legos and Duplos. (Did you know that Lego owns Duplo?! I didn’t, until today.)

The paths through the woods are dirt/rocks with very uneven terrain.

Nope. With so many campers returning via carpooling with friends they made at camp, the demand is smaller every year, to the point where it’s become unviable. Joining our FACEBOOK GROUP is the best way to arrange a ride.

So many of our activities carry inherent risk. Qualified instructors will guide you, but sometimes injuries happen. We have first responders on-site for first-aid, but as an adult, you are ultimately responsible for taking care of yourself. So, if you are, for example, horsing around in the dark with lightsabers and happen to chip a tooth, you are responsible for any resulting dentist or hospital bills.

You: “Oh my, but that example is oddly specific…”

Me: “Yes…. yes, it is.”

You may bring your bicycle as long as you also bring (and wear) an appropriate helmet (on your head).

I friggin’ wish! My dog is awesome! Her name is Willow and she is #1 Good Dog.

Unless your dog is specifically trained to perform absolutely necessary tasks for you (as defined by the ADA), you have to do what we do, and leave your super awesome doggo at home :(((((( <-super sadface. Service animals are a need, not a want. They must be trained to perform specific tasks, be unquestionably housebroken, and absolutely non-aggressive. If you are wondering whether or not you should bring your animal, you should not. If you do have a necessary service animal, please contact us at [email protected]

If they are over 21 years old by the first day of camp, they can absolutely register for camp!

So did we! Thanks to our current government administration, changes and uncertainties pertaining to the laws that enable work visas for internationally sourced camp staff made our chosen venue fall through.  We are determined to have a west coast camp at a venue that “gets” us and our mission, so we have to put more time and thought into who to partner with next.

The cellular coverage is actually pretty decent at our new location, however, there is no wifi.

There will be designated smoking areas. Smoking outside of these areas is not allowed. All of these smoking areas will be equipped with “Butt Buckets”, please respect the property and dispose of your butts.

One of the major upgrades for 2019 are the twin sized Tempurpedic mattresses with box springs on beds that are made for adults! They’re very comfortable!

Please email us at [email protected] and we will answer all of your questions to the best of our ability!
