Geek Summer Camp For Grownups

Epic Nerd Camp is an adult summer camp program for geeks ages 21+ who enjoy gaming, fantasy, and sci-fi. Spend 5 days/4 nights of playing tabletop games, live action role-playing, and doing activities IRL that characters do in-game. You’ll find out what it takes to be a hero as you learn swordplay, archery, and level up your crafting skills!

 

Epic Nerd Camp is an experience that focuses on building community through social activities, learning “hero” skills, playing games, expressing creativity, and making the kind of lasting friendships that can only come from summer camp!

At Epic Nerd Camp, you will enjoy busy, productive days following a personalized schedule that you choose, with classes designed for adult summer camp. Where Is This Magical Place?

ENC is being held at Camp Ramblewood, located just off I-95, in Darlington, Maryland. The facility and its amenities are designed for adults, which affords our campers a much higher degree of comfort than some of our previous years.

Cabins are completely self-contained buildings with sinks, showers, toilets, and Tempurpedic twin sized beds. During registration, you will be able to choose between all-male, all-female, or mixed-gender cabins. We make every effort to ensure that everyone is as comfortable as possible.

Three meals per day are provided, including options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, Keto, and diabetic diets.

If you are excited about what Epic Nerd Camp has to offer, you’re nerdy enough. You don’t need to have previous experience in doing any of the things you’re excited about. Trying new things is one of the best parts of camp! However, if you are looking at this as a cheap alternative to a specialty camp, and disdain the nerdy aspects, ENC is not for you. If you’re looking for some nerds to troll/bully, ENC is not for you. We’ll boot you out and keep your money. :)

  • Refund requests made more than 90 days before the start of camp are eligible to receive a refund of their paid registration fee, minus a $75 cancellation fee and any associated Tabletop Events fees.
  • Refund requests made between 61 – 90 days prior to the start of camp are eligible to receive a 50% refund of the paid registration fee, minus any associated Tabletop Events fees.
  • Refund requests made within 60 days of camp will not be eligible for a refund.
  • Please note that any refunds will NOT include Tabletop.Events fees.

All requests for refunds must be made by notifying Epic Nerd Camp directly.

Yes! We have several options when it comes to bunking, including co-ed cabins.  All of the beds have twin sized Tempur-pedic mattresses of varying firmness. Some people push them together to sleep closer to their companion.  We’ll be asking you questions on bunk preferences (including people you’d like to bunk with) as part of badge registration.

BYO. Don’t be an obnoxious drunk. Don’t be drunk during day activities.

You must be 21+ years of age by your arrival at camp. There is no upper age limit. Our attendees range from 21-65, with the bulk being in their lateish 20s to mid 40s.

Yes, you will be provided with three meals each day. You are, of course, welcome to bring your own. You have a choice between standard, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, Keto, diabetic, and/or list any specific allergies you have. Ramblewood has been excellent in providing safe options for everyone. You will be able to indicate your preferences as part of badge registration.  You are also welcome to bring prepared meals and keep them in the kitchen fridge. Please contact us well in advance and notify us if you plan to do so; we will make every effort to make this as convenient and safe as possible.

The main buildings are accessible, and a cabin has been outfitted for accessibility. The grounds are largely not wheelchair accessible as there are a large number of hills and obstacles that would prevent a wheelchair-bound camper from traveling around to activity spaces unassisted. A limited number of golf carts are available to rent for campers with mobility issues. If you have limited mobility (sans wheelchair), you should be fine as long as you can comfortably walk up to 10,000 steps a day unassisted, including incline/declines, steps, shiny distractions, etc.  The venue has been making strides in their updates, but the overall facility can still be challenging to get around.

Although the range is from 21-65, the bulk of our campers are in their mid-2os to mid-40s. Several campers have come or returned with their parents.  Age doesn’t seem to matter though, as our shared passion of fandoms, games, and creative media is a huge equalizer.

Traditionally, we’ve had slightly more campers who use female pronouns, which is unusual for a “nerd” event… but we excel in “unusual” ;P

YES, definitely yes. There is no way to work around this. Not only will ENC take photos, the campers will be taking photos, as well as the possibility of members of the media, including, but not limited to, newspapers and tv networks. We do our best to avoid taking photos/video of people who have expressed that they would like to be avoided, but if you have major issues with showing up in a photograph or video, this program may not be the best fit for you. There’s a photo/video release in the registration waiver.

The main roads/pathways are paved, which covers almost all of the venue. There are some paths that have large gravel. It’s like a mix of regular sized Lego and Duplo blocks.

The paths through the woods are dirt/rocks with very uneven terrain.

Nope. With so many campers returning via carpooling with friends they made at camp, the demand became smaller every year, to the point where it’s become unviable. Joining our FACEBOOK GROUP is the best way to arrange a ride, and take a look at our Preparation Guide for more info.

So many of our activities carry inherent risk. Qualified instructors will guide you, but sometimes injuries happen. We have first responders on-site for first-aid, but as an adult, you are ultimately responsible for taking care of yourself. So, if you are, for example, horsing around in the dark with lightsabers and happen to chip a tooth, you are responsible for any resulting dentist or hospital bills.

 Unless your dog is specifically trained to perform absolutely necessary tasks for you (as defined by the ADA), you have to do what we do, and leave your super awesome doggo at home :(((((( <-super sadface. Service animals are a need, not a want. They must be trained to perform specific tasks, be unquestionably housebroken, and absolutely non-aggressive. If you are wondering whether or not you should bring your animal, you should not. If you do have a necessary service animal, please contact us at [email protected] to make arrangements.

If they are over 21 years old by the first day of camp, they can absolutely register for camp!

In truth, there are many programs out there that cater to differently abled people in certain ways that we are not staffed to handle. If you, or your dependent, require a companion for cognitive assistance, the companion must register as a camper; and must accompany them to all activities, and provide any further instruction or assistance beyond what our instructor can provide while teaching the entire class.

The cellular coverage is actually pretty decent…. in places.

There will be designated smoking/vaping areas. Smoking/vaping outside of these areas is not allowed. All of these smoking areas will be equipped with “Butt Buckets”, please respect the property and dispose of your butts.

Welcome to Maryland, where weed is legal! For smoking, the above rules apply, although you still need to be considerate of the people around you, as they may be drug tested at work or simply not want to breathe it in. For everything else, as long as you are not impaired, and are able to safely participate in activities, do what you will. As with everything, don’t be an asshole. If your good time makes a bad time for someone else, don’t do it.

Amazing. The beds are amazing. I slept so well (which is weird for me). They are Twin XL-sized Tempur-pedic mattresses with box springs on beds that are made for adults! They are covered in plastic, so I suggest bringing a mattress cover. They vary in firmness, so try out a few before you settle in.
